Global Warming Myths Debunked
One of the sites I stumbled upon during my daily scouring of the Web, was a site called Friends of Science (http://friendsofscience.org/). They are starkly against the Kyoto Protocol, so they muddle the truth or flat out lie in order to convince people that climate change is natural and beyond human control. On their site is a list of 10 global warming myths which mix fact with fiction and genuine argument with fallacy. I felt compelled to debunk their so-called myths with a 10 part series of posts which you can read down below.
After I began the series I found out some more information about who these people really are, and who pays their bills. The Canadian based group is funded by several oil and gas companies but the interesting thing is how the money gets to their pockets. According to this source, "The money was funneled through the Calgary Foundation, to the University of Calgary and on to the FOS though something called the 'Science Education Fund.'"
These guys are funded by the industry that has the most to lose from climate change legislation, oil companies. They're biased, misleading and choosing profits over our future. Upton Sinclair once said, "It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his job depends on not understanding it". Isn't that the truth.
The Globe and Mail did a wonderful piece where they reveal the true motivations of the Friends of Science group. Read it here: Mr. Cool: Nurturing Doubt About Climate Change Is Big Business
