Texas energy company TXU is working on 11 new coal-fired powerplants to supply power to the state's growing population. The impact that this aged and dirty technology will have on our planet is huge. According to the article, Texas already spews more greenhouse gasses than both Canada and Britain. Although coal is 'cleaner' now than in the past, it is still a very dirty technology. These plants won't even utilize the most efficient coal technologies because, you guessed it, economics.
They claim that they will be able to lower emissions 20% even with these new plants, but it's unclear how this will be acheived. Anyone else find it amazing that people can still get away with increasing the use of technologies like this?
