Feed SUVs or Us

This raises an interesting question, if our huge demands for energy shift from fossil fuels to bio-fuels derived from corn, sugar-cane, and/or soybeans, how will we have enough left over to feed the world? Who will choose whether a soybean gets made into tofu or biodiesel?

RumsfeldThe Sierra Club has sued the Department of Defense because they have been dragging their feet on a study of the effects of wind turbines on military radar. There are fears that the turbines spinning blades reflect the radar signals which causes confusion.

The Dept. of Defense has missed the May 2006 deadline for the completion of the study and as a result is holding up the construction of dozens of wind farms across the midwestern US.

Hot Air or Chilly Truth?

Chilly truth. This article argues that the recent report by climate scientists that point out that the Earth is hotter than it's been in 400 years is leaving out some crucial information. The author deduces that because the Earth is hotter than it's been in 400 years, that 400+ years ago the Earth must have been hotter, and that was before human's started burning fossil fuels. Good deduction, but he leaves out something. The report blames most of this recent warming trend on human activities. So applying the authors same logic with this added bit of information and you see that yes the Earth has natural warming and cooling cycles, and yes human activities are contributing to the warming side of the trend.

So what happens when you add human induced warmth with naturally occuring warming cycles? Please, can someone answer that?

US Supreme Court To Consider Regulating Auto Emissions

Supreme CourtThe Bush administration urged the court not to hear this case, but thank goodness they did anyway. They will challenge the decision by the EPA to not regulate tailpipe emissions on the grounds outlined below.

"The EPA said in 2003 that it wouldn't regulate emissions from new cars and trucks, pointing to 'substantial scientific uncertainty' about the effects of climate change on human health and the environment and about the best means to address the issue." [Bloomberg.com]

Good to know our president as well as the Environmental Protection Agency is doing their best to ensure we do not protect our environment or people's health!
