1/4° increase = 2x the cyclone intensity

Cyclone LarryA study released by Purdue University has shown that over the last 40 years there has been an increase in sea surface temperatures of about a quarter degree. This has resulted in a doubling of overall cyclone activity. The article mentions that those sea surfaces are projected to increase by about 2 additional degrees within the next century. 

This study differed from other studies because it covered the entire globe rather than just a particular region. Although they came to the same conclusions.
